Are you David Crosby, Maria McKee, Nanci Griffith or [fill in the
blank]?
No. And don't laugh--some folks think we are!
Can you forward on to Crosby, Maria, Nanci or [fill in the blank]
an e-mail, a note, a package full of song
lyrics, etc.?
No.
Who is "The Old Grey Cat"?
The Old Grey Cat was our old grey cat, Smokey.
He passed away in 1997. These days, we're the proud owners of a little
orange weasel--er, I mean kitty cat--named Benigni. He's as funny, if not funnier
than, his namesake, Roberto Benigni.
Then who's "The Old Grey Cat" referred to within your
reviews?
Initially, it was me, Jeff. But, over time, it's come to represent the
editorial stance of Jeff and Diane's e-zine, The Old Grey Cat.
That's a common misconception. The Old Grey Cat was, is and will always be about
something much, much larger than one particular artist. Check out our Contents page; The Old Grey
Cat is the Unofficial CSNY Pages, true, but it's also Diane's
excellent discography for Garland Jeffreys.
It's also Britney Spears, Hillary Duff's "So Yesterday" and ... whatever
catches our fancy. Our original aim was to make The Old Grey Cat an on-line
encyclopedia of all our many favorite artists, acts, etc.
Who are Jeff and Diane?
We're two American kids doing the best we can.
When and why did The Old Grey Cat launch?
February of '97. We'd been traveling
the electronic highway since the dirt road days of '91, prowling
Prodigy's message boards and trading tapes, making acquaintances, making
friends. Then: the 'net, which played havoc with our minds when introduced to us in 1996.
Democracy with a little
"d": That was, and remains, my vision of the Web. When you have
the time, surf the Web's wealth of "personal" sites, riding the
links from one website to the next ... they were put together by *everyday*
folk! And the information often rivals, if not surpasses, what can be had on
the commercial alternatives. How could we not want to be part of the fray? Thus,
in '97, we staked our claim: ,
the address before we transformed into a "GeoPlus" site and added
"~oldgreycat" to the URL.
In August of '01, we ditched GeoCities in favor of our own digs and switched
to - http://www.oldgreycat.com. We
essentially mothballed the site the same year ... occasional updates, but
nowhere near the same hectic pace during our formative years (1997-2000).
What is OGC Theatre?
"Old Grey Cat" Theatre. That came about in
early 2002; basically an extension of the same.
What's the deal with the OGC book series?
They're fun, if pricey, little tomes that,
if/when the site goes off-line, will remain as a record for how we spent too
much of our time ... if ya haven't already,
buy one!
Where can we purchase the "collector CDs" you review?
We recommend visiting one of the many communities on the web
where tape and CDR trading occurs. For instance, for Neil Young, I recommend
and . For CSN, the 's the place to be...
But I want to buy bootlegs, not trade for tapes and/or CDRs!
Where can I buy bootlegs? Where can I find more info on them?
Don't buy bootlegs. They're archaic
- like our boot reviews.
