Garland 's busy preparing a best-of package
for Universal ... Be sure to check
out my on-line radio station, - always a Garland song (or two) in the mix .... Garland's DVD showcases an engaging 1992 German TV performance ... and is a knock-out, to say the least. Two highlights: "Racial Repertoire," which is punctuated by a snippet of Marvin Gaye's classic "What's Going On," and Garland's own classic "I May Not Be Your Kind." (It's a "code-free" DVD, too, which means it should be playable regardless of what country you call home.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- named Garland's to his Top 10 albums of 2004: "This is my rediscovery album of 2004, although I never heard of it until this year. Jeffreys is a New York poet-rocker with Cuban-Puerto Rican flavorings to his rich neo-R&B sound. He had seminal hits in the late '70s, early '80s ("Wild in the Streets," "Matador"), then stepped away. Now a very youthful 61, he's only better than ever. This album, from 1997, is a joy to behold and a lost classic if ever there was one." (FYI: Friedman, aside from his day-job tracking celebs, is a long-time fan of soul music ... he produced the 2002 documentary , which spotlights such Stax legends as Wilson Pickett, Sam Moore, Mary Wilson and the Chi-Lites.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last, but certainly not least ... on tap for 2005: at the Ridgewood, NJ, concert, Garland said that he's soon to sign a record deal with a major label! If all goes according to plan, the first release will be a greatest-hits type affair with a few new songs included in the mix. This is great news, to say the least. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garland appears on the benefit CD with a hypnotic rendition of "Streets of Philadelphia."
